Dog Flu or Canine Influenza Virus (CIV)

Dog flu is also known as Canine Influenza which is a contagious respiratory disease in dogs caused by canine influenza virus A (IAVs). Canine Influenza virus is spread through sneezing, coughing, nasal discharge, floors, food bowl, water bottle, clothes and skin of people who come in contact with infected dogs.

So, people can get Canine Influenza from the infected dogs?

Fact! Canine Influenza poses no threat to humans. You can offer extra care to infected dogs without worrying.

The signs of Dog Flu in dogs are cough, runny nose, fever, lethargy, eye discharge, and reduced appetite. If your dog has a weakened immune system or walk out often, it may have a chance to get dog flu. Like humans, make sure your dogs get influenza vaccination once a year.

During the first 4-5 days of infection; it can be tested with Canine Influenza Virus Rapid Antigen Test Kit (CIV Ag), immunoassays, serology or PCR.
